Style Guide for Glasses: The Right Glasses for Every Face

The selection of matching sunglasses requires expert advice. It should be customized to protect the eyes and not to endanger yourself or others and it has to be stylish.

  1. Grey glasses ideal when driving

Depending on the strength of their shades, sunglass lenses are classified as so-called anti-glare categories from 0 to 4 and are designed accordingly for very different environmental brightness. For example, sunglasses of the anti-glare category 4 are generally unsuitable for road traffic, since these glasses only pass through three to eight percent of the incoming light.

  1. The strap should not be too wide

If you drive a lot of cars, make sure that the mount and the bracket are as narrow as possible, so that they do not restrict the facial field. The ZVA emphasizes that drivers should not be limited by their sunglasses in peripheral vision. The perception of "out of the corner of the eye" is of immense importance for the safe participation in road traffic.

  1. Allow the version to be customized

Each head is different. Therefore, the version of the head form has to be adapted individually. The optician considers the head shape, the distance of the eyes, the width of the temple, and the position of the ears.

  1. Buy sunglasses in your eyesight

If you are short-sighted or far-sighted and you already wear glasses, your sunglasses should be made in the required strengths. For security and vision are inextricably linked.

  1. Sufficient UV protection

The sunglasses should also provide adequate UV protection. Optimum sun protection filters filter as many wavelengths of light as below 400 nanometers (UV-A, -B, -C), thus offering maximum protection against painful inflammation of the connective and cornea or against permanent damage to the retina.
